Event summary

Neurodiversity exists at Portable and within the broader community. We work with neurodivergent people everyday internally and on our projects to deliver the best outcomes. Being conscious of different people's needs and experiences are invaluable in not only the work that Portable does but how we interact with broader society.

My role

As a leader in the business managing a team of designers and with a recent diagnosis of ADHD, I joined my fellow neurodivergent colleagues at Portable to share in an informative and normalising conversation about the realities of navigating neurodivergence in the workplace.

I worked to create safe, supportive and permission-giving space for my colleagues to express their needs and concerns about the presentation, and provided encouragement and coaching as needed.

My impact

My intention for involvement in this conversation was to model vulnerability and normalise the presence of neurodivergence in workplaces; including leadership roles. I shared insights from my own experiences with neurodiversity, particularly ADHD, to advocate for inclusive practices within the workplace.

“I loved the discussion so much I shared the recoding with my team. We’ve had lots of chats recently about how best to highlight the importance of neurodiversity and your points really hit the nail on the head”

My insights

The webinar deepened my understanding of the practical implications of neurodiversity in the workplace. It highlighted the necessity of creating environments that recognise and celebrate cognitive differences as assets rather than challenges. This experience reinforced my commitment to advocating for inclusive practices that not only accommodate but actively benefit from the unique strengths of neurodivergent individuals.

“Adam did an amazing job in helping make the Neurodiversity event what it was. From day one Adam was incredibly open and supportive, being able to chat with and bounce ideas off as well as open up about our struggles and successes was invaluable. The openness of his vulnerability not only helped make the event, but also helped Caitlin and I feel more comfortable to share our own vulnerabilities. On top of all of this Adam did an amazing job of presenting in a really confident yet genuine way. Awesome work Adam!”
